What Art Can Your Child Produce On A Computer?

What do you think of when you hear the word art? Paintings and sculptures, right? Well you and your child may or may not be aware that art is so much more than this. Art is defined as the production of things which thorough their symbolic or literal notion encourage an effect on one or more of the emotions. This means that you can produce just about anything from anything and as long as it has an effect on someone's emotions somewhere, you can call it art.

With computers increasingly becoming one of the main sources from which our children learn you may or may not be surprised to know that there are many ways in which your child can do art on a computer. Read about what different:

Film

One of the most popular modes of art at the moment is video. Along with the help of a digital camera you can put your footage on your computer and edit it into something worth watching. This is how every single film you watch on television or in the cinema is produced using industry standard software that lets you play around with not only the order of different sections of footage but with the sound, the light effects, the speed and everything else that you care to alter. Some even argue that cinema is the ultimate form of art as it involves so many senses and has such a big effect on so many people...unless you are watching Sex in the City 2 which is certainly not art.

Animation

Similarly to film, animation is a form of art which is very popular today. Animation was one of the earliest ways of producing a moving image using traditional art supplies and is still popular today, though it is now produced and edited on computers. If anything is a more malleable form of art than film, it is animation as you can create an image of anything your child's imagination can concoct and make it do whatever you want it to do, although it is possibly less effective than film as you lose that human to human link when you stop using real humans.

Unfortunately educational supplies may not stretch to a full animation studio, but with some big classroom furniture, paper and a pencil you can explore the principles at least.

Photo Editing

If you want your child to try creating art on your computer, one of the easiest ways to do it is using photo editing software. There are many software packages to choose from but they all should allow you to take a normal photograph and use a massive range of editing tools to change your image into something special. Have fun!

Sam Qam is a traditional artist. He provides educational supplies and produces a range of innovative classroom furniture which has really helped many children to learn more about producing art from innovative sources.
